Who we are

1. Introduction

SAEVA — South Asians for Empowerment, Voice & Advocacy — is a nonpartisan civic organization supporting civic education, leadership development, and public-interest research. SAEVA is currently completing its legal formation and is not yet a tax-exempt organization. This policy applies to SAEVA and to all SAEVA-operated digital properties, including this website, and will apply to any entity SAEVA establishes as that formation completes.

What we gather

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run our programs and communicate with you:

  • Contact details — name, email address, and postal address when you become a member, subscribe to the newsletter, register for an event, or join the founding supporter list.
  • Supporter information — if you join the founding supporter list, your name, email, and the amount you indicate you intend to give. No payment details are collected while contributions are closed. When contributions open, billing and payment data will be handled by our payment processor and never stored on SAEVA servers.
  • Form submissions — any information you voluntarily share through our contact, volunteer, or program-interest forms.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser type, device, referring page, and pages viewed, collected automatically through server and analytics logs.
Purpose

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Send program updates, event invitations, and the SAEVA newsletter.
  • Contact you about supporting SAEVA financially once contributions open, and issue receipts and acknowledgment letters for any contribution you later make.
  • Respond to inquiries submitted through our contact forms.
  • Improve our website, communications, and programs.
  • Comply with the legal, tax, and reporting obligations that apply to us.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share donor lists with other organizations for their marketing purposes.

Vendors we use

4. Third-party services

We rely on a small set of trusted service providers to operate this site and our programs. Each is bound by its own privacy terms:

  • Stripe — payment processing for donations and event registrations.
  • Resend — transactional and newsletter email delivery.
  • Sanity — content management for news, events, and program pages.
  • Vercel — website hosting, edge delivery, and platform analytics.
  • Neon — managed Postgres database for member and program records.

We share personal information with these providers only to the extent necessary to deliver the services you have requested.

How we measure

5. Cookies and analytics

SAEVA uses Vercel Analytics to understand aggregate site traffic. Vercel Analytics does not use cookies and does not collect personally identifiable information. We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to support site functionality (such as remembering that you have dismissed a banner). We do not use cross-site tracking or advertising cookies.

How long we keep it

6. Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law. Donation records are retained for the period required by federal and state tax law. Newsletter subscriber records are retained until you unsubscribe. You may request earlier deletion, subject to the exceptions described below.

Access, correction, deletion

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, request deletion, or object to certain processing. California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). Residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@saeva.org. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
